Last Month in Watched It: July 2018

Movies:

  • Blockers (2018)
  • Life of the Party (2018)
  • The Conjuring (2013)
  • Super Trooper 2 (2018)
  • Thoroughbreds (2018)
  • Love, Simon (2018)
  • Overboard (1987)
  • Overboard (2018)
  • I Feel Pretty (2018)

The Good:

Love, Simon is one of the best coming to age movies I have seen in a while. It’s a reincarnation of a John Hughes style love story that is beyond beautiful and delightful. It also takes on the problems and dilemmas a person might go through when decided when and how to come out… if they aren’t ousted by someone else. This is must see and top 10 of the year I predict.

Grade A

The Bad:

Overboard continues the on the list of remakes we never asked for or wanted. In doing my “research” for this movie, I had to watch the original, something I hadn’t seen yet. The 1987 version is good. It’s a fun movie with a good cast, but on to the remake which sucks. It’s shot for shot at some points and lacks an original spin besides the gender swap of who has amnesia. I did like how some characters unapologetically spoke Spanish. It was nice to not have them speak broken English for a low hanging fruit joke.

Grade D

The Old or Surprising:

Hands down the most surprising thing I have watched this month is Blockers. I had zero hope for this raunchy looking comedy with the stupid title. Then I watched it and this movie got me misty, like in my eyeballs. It’s so much more than a raunchy comedy, it actually has a heart and solid message behind it. Blockers did itself no favors with the crap title and that’s unfortunate because it should be seen. I enjoyed every bit of it.

What I Watched in July 2013

Movies:

    • Extract (2009)
    • 21 & Over (2013)
    • The Watch (2012)
    • The Dark Knight Rises (2012)

The Good:

The completion of the Christopher Nolan Batman trilogy came in as the best movie I saw this month. The Dark Knight Rises is the weakest of the three Nolan Batman movies but it gives viewers a little more of what they loved from the first two. It’s a 9/10.

The Bad:

I have always been a fan if high school or college raunchy comedy movies, but I just turned 27 and maybe I’m maturing. 21 & Over is not a good example of these raunchy youthful comedies I enjoy. I laughed several times but a lot of what I was watching had been done before. Far from a refreshing take. 3/10

The Old or Surprising:

I caught up with 2009’s Extract but I would rather talk about a movie that is being panned called The Watch. It doesn’t look good based on the trailer. It shouldn’t be a movie I enjoy but I did… a lot. I gave The Watch a 8/10 and I stand by it. Cast had great comedic chemistry. Give it a chance.
