The Good:

Blindspotting – This film takes on so many things at once and makes it work flawlessly. It takes on police brutality, blends it with great comedic beats, smashes you with emotional heart wrenching moments, and finishes you off with sublime raps. It is nothing like I have ever seen before and needs to be seen by everyone.

Grade A

The Bad:

Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween – I had heard the budget to this movie was significantly cut down from the first, but what I hadn’t heard or noticed was the serious lack of Jack Black. The first one was unapologetically good fun. My son and I enjoyed it, and Jack Black was a big reason why. This sequel is the hottest of hot garbage.

Grade D

The Old or Surprising:

Bumblebee – I fully expected this to be the best entry into the Transformers universe due to the directorial change, the trailers alone being better than anything Michael Bay put out. That’s an extremely low bar based on my views of the previous Transformers movies though. This, however,  is a legit good movie. It has heart thanks to Hailee Steinfeld and Bumblebee’s “Iron Giant” like relationship. John Cena continues his solid year in film with a hit and miss performance. He delivers some excellent comedy at times, while occasionally over cooking it as if to please the previous franchise director. See this.
