The Good:

A Quiet Place – One of the my favorite movies of the year. It’s creative and brilliantly written and directed. This isn’t John Krasinski’s first time in the directors chair but it’s by far his best. Rumors of a sequel or as rumors are calling it, a prequel, in the works as well which will give us more time in this interesting and thrilling world this writing team has created. This is a must see movie.

Grade A

The Bad:

The 15:17 to Paris – The 15:17 to Paris is a great and heroic story poorly executed by a decent director with a too grand of a vision. The idea of using the actual heroes to play themselves in the film was a bold and risky move, that ultimately didn’t pay off. I found the acting distracting and the 90% of the film to be extremely boring. Now, we get to the part on the train, the part that is the focus of the story, that part was amazing. Extremely gritty and moving to see what these heroes did to save the lives of the passengers of that train. This is a very bad movie but it’s almost worth watching just to see the last 15 minutes or so.

Grade D

The Old or Surprising:

Ready Player One – This might be purely based on the wealth of nostalgia I witnessed and went though while watching Ready Player One, but I loved it and I really didn’t think I would. I love Stanley Kubrick and the scenes that take place at the Overlook Hotel brought so much joy to my Kubrick loving heart. Ready Player One itself is a fun ride with plenty of flaws but it really feels like Spielberg had fun with this one after making several intense and good dramas.
