What I Watched May 2018

Movies:

  • Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest (2006)
  • Brawl in Cell Block 99 (2017)
  • Molly’s Game (2017)
  • Thank You For Your Service (2017)
  • The Commuter (2018)
  • Game Night (2018)

The Good:

Jessica Chastain and Aaron Sorkin team up in Molly’s Game, the story of Olympic skier turned high stakes poker host. I can’t for the life of me understand why Meryl Streep got nominated over Jessica Chastain for the Best Actress Oscar. Streep is always great but she doesn’t deserve and automatic bid every year. Chastain was a amazing in this movie and should have received a nomination. She carries a good not great movie on her own. Grade B

The Bad:

I have to go with The Commuter for this one. It’s a bad movie that lacks any sort of originality and feels like every other Liam Neeson movie that has came out the past 5-7 years. It a tired premise that worked pretty well for a while. Liam is starting to get that Bruce Willis look… you know… the look that says “I’m too old to be looking like I’m still kicking everyones ass.” Grade D

The Old or Surprising:

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest from 2006 is the old for the month. I’m behind on the Johnny Depp pirate series, so I have decided to play catch up. I really enjoyed the first movie and found the second one to be pleasant as well. I don’t understand the need of them to be so long, this one was two hours and thirty one minutes long. Grade B-
