2016 Summer Movie Preview

Summer preview time! It’s time to look at what has already came out this Summer and what else is on the way. Here are my most anticipated movies for June, July, and August.

Top 5 Most Anticipated Summer 2016 Movies

5. The Secret Lives of Pets, July 8th

  • From the people who brought us Despicable Me, comes The Secret Lives of Pets, a look into our pets lives when we aren’t around. The cast is strong with comedic actors and actresses and the trailers have been very funny. It’s been a strong year for animated movies with Finding Dory, Zootopia, and The Little Prince. While I’m not sure this will top the list, it should be on par with those other 3 which are currently on my Top 10 list.

4. Star Trek Beyond, July 22nd

  • I seem to be in the minority when it comes to people who really enjoyed Star Trek Into Darkness, it wasn’t a perfect film but I thought it was a lot of fun. The Star Trek series has really surprised me. I grew up a Star Wars fan and not a Star Trek fan, and truthfully I just never gave Star Trek a chance until the 2009 film. Early signals are that this film isn’t as good as the previous two but I still have high hopes.

3. Free State of Jones, June 24th

    • Confession… I’m writing this after  seeing the Rotten Tomatoes score which is currently at 40%. When I first checked, it was siting at a dismal 14%. When watching the trailer, I got super pumped about this movie. I even debated on if it was going to move this up higher on my list. Now after seeing the Rotten Tomatoes score, this might be one I look back on and think “what was I thinking…” Regardless of the reviews, I will remain optimistic.

2. Finding Dory, June 24th

  • Our favorite fish are finally back and are ready to take us on a brand new adventure. This time we will cross the ocean on a search for Dory’s family. I loved Finding Nemo, as did my son and wife, so the expectations are very high our the household. I don’t expect it to supersede the first film. That’s a feat very few sequels have pulled off, but I think it will be awesome.

 1. Suicide Squad, August 5th

  • Here it is, the winner of the coveted number one spot on the Summer Movies Watched It Preview List… Suicide Squad. Now, if you have followed me for a while, you would know I’m not a huge fan of comic book movies and feel very burned out by them. Well, when you offer up a trailer that gives off the same vibe that The Dark Knight had and you take away the kid feel of what Marvel keeps pushing out.. I’m in! Way in, in fact. I loved Nolan’s Batman series and while I don’t expect this to meet those lofty standards, I think it will be presented in a similar way and for that reason it’s my number one Summer movie.
